Ag 181 - Veterinary Field Work

Ag 181 can be used for several majors within the Agriculture Department.  For pre-veterinary students, Ag 181 is considered a required course each semester.  It is recommended that you take Ag 181A (1 unit)/semester for 4 semesters in a row - instead of loading up with Ag 181D (4 units).  Remember your grades are most important.  Do not work excessive hours if it means having a lower GPA.

A diverse supervised job experience in veterinary medicine is strongly recommended.  This means working for a food animal veterinarian, equine veterinarian, research facility and a small animal practice.

You are required to meet with me at least twice at the beginning of each semester (for this course) and twice at the end of the semester.  I will attempt to visit your place of employment during the two 15 week semesters each year.  Make sure you make an appointment to see me in November to go over your progress in this course.  This meeting will account for a portion of your overall grader.

Please complete the following form, have your employer sign it and return it directly to me before September 8th (12:35 p.m.). Upon completion of this form I will hand you a four page evaluation and time sheet packet that must be completed and returned to me no later than December 7, 2009.   I will be in my office from 1-1:15 on December 7th to collect the four page evaluation sheet and your one page typed summary.  If you cannot make it at that time please make arrangements to meet with me prior to that date. For each day it is late, you will lose one complete grade. The veterinarian being out of town, your car breaking down, your printer not working, having a bad hair day,  are all “non-excuses” for turning in your paper work on time.

Please feel free to call me at 818-710-4254 or email me at drcows@aol.com  if you have any further questions regarding the Ag 181 course or veterinary program
