Pierce College has the most successful two-year Pre-Veterinary
Science program in the State of California. We are internationally know
for our excellence in hands-on training of applicants to
graduate schools of veterinary medicine. Our farm laboratory,
our diverse veterinary teaching staff, our excellent life science,
and chemistry support programs and our industry mentors have
contributed
to this success. As of today (March 2009), 151 Pierce alumni
have
applied and been accepted into graduate schools of veterinary medicine.
Our
first three alumni were Dr. Charles Jenner, a graduate of Manual Arts
High
School in South Central Los Angeles and the founding director of the
Big
Horn Sheep Institute and Dr. Hubert Johnstone (dairy science
major), who served as
the San Diego County Veterinarian for many years; and Dr. Dick La Rue
(Dairy Science major) who had his own practice, following graduation
from UC Davis, in Woodland Hills . In 2002
eight Pierce students applied and seven were accepted. In 2003 four
students applied, three were admitted and one was put on the
waiting list. In 2004, six Pierce students applied, all six received
multiple interviews, five were accepted at (University of Illinois,
UC Davis, Western, Mississippi, University of Minnesota, Tufts,
Wisconsin and Kansas and the sixth student was on the waiting list at
Purdue University. 2005 Successes can be seen at
Pierce
Farm Laboratory. This was an exceptional year for us.
Eighteen of our students applied and all eighteen were accepted
into graduate schools of veterinary medicine. 2006 applicants
(graduating
class of 2010) can be seen at students admitted to vet
schools 2006. In 2007, sixteen
additional Pierce students received interviews at graduate schools
of veterinary medicine - 14 were accepted and two were placed on
waiting lists. In 2008, eleven of our students applied to
graduate
schools of veterinary medicine. Two of our alumni decided to
change their minds and apply to a "human" medical school. The results
of
their successes can be found at 2008
successes. The results from 2009 are still pending. So far
our
interviews and acceptances can be found at 2009 results.
Our students have been accepted at UC Davis, Purdue, Tuskegee,
Mississippi, Fort Collins, Iowa State,
Prince Edwards, Gainesville, Michigan State, Wisconsin, University
of Liverpool, Oklahoma State, Guadalajara, Kansas State, Ross
University, Washington State at Pullman, University College at Dublin,
University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, Tufts, Cornell,
