Summer 2009 Artificial Insemination Laboratory

Los Angeles Pierce College is a community college. It is only because of the support of our local and extended community that we are able to offer quality programs to our students. This summer we offered a hands-on course in bovine artificial insemination. This was an advanced course - only offered to students who already completed animal anatomy and physiology, principles of animal science and the lecture online course in Artificial Insemination.  The college president, Bob Garber, our dean, Dr. Carol Kozeracki, our department chair, Dick South all pulled together to allow us to use our "almost finished" new beef cattle facilities. Thank you!

In addition, Genex Cooperative, Inc. gathered both resources and personnel needed to complete and teach this course. Ron Heim, certified artificial insemination instructor drove from Chino three days in a row to help teach as well. His expertise, his patience and his ability to calmly instruct beginning technicians in this art is greatly appreciated.   Bill Ziese, who helped train several previous Pierce students and faculty coordinated the supplies, instructor's assistant, cattle and cattle transportation.  Thank you Ron, Bill and Genex Cooperative, Inc.

Dairy farmer Art Marquez donated 13 of his cattle for nine days to use as teaching tools for this unique laboratory.  John Anker of Anker Trucking, provided transportation for the cattle to and from Chino Valley.   Theresa Polich of Webster Veterinary Supplies rushed needed supplies to us at the last moment.  Thank you Art, John and Theresa.

Dr. Rebecca Yates, Angela Killips - staff RVT, Russel Schrotenboer - Certified A.I. technician and college Agriculture Assistant all assisted in the teaching of the class. Bill Lander, Tom Bolger, and Lu Dao helped to prepare our teaching laboratory.

THANK YOU!
