WHAT IS PROFESSIONAL/STAFF DEVELOPMENT?
Professional Development refers to "activities to enhance professional career growth."  Yet the practical definition of Professional Development encompasses formal and informal means of helping faculty, staff, and administrators develop new insights into teaching and learning, improve college practices, and explore new or advanced understandings of content and resources in an effort to improve the pedagogical environment.
WHAT IS INSTRUCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT?

Instructional Improvement is a faculty contractual obligation.  Instructional Improvement activities can be and are not limited to training programs, group retreats, field experiences and workshops in activities such as course and program development and revision, staff development activities, development of new instructional materials and other instructional-related activities.   All classroom faculty shall complete and report an hourly commitment equal to or greater than the number of instructional improvement hours required.

INSTRUCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT FORMS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN JUNE 1st, 2008.  FAILURE TO COMPLETE YOUR OBLIGATION COULD AFFECT YOUR WAGES, CONFERENCE REIMBURSEMENT, TUITION REIMBURSEMENT, AS WELL AS YOUR FACULTY EVALUATION.

CONFIGURING AND DOCUMENTING YOUR OBLIGATION

Full Time Faculty with Additional Hourly Loads - must complete and report 33.5 hours + 1/2 of their total annual hourly assignment.
Faculty with Release Time Assignments - must complete and report on a pro-rata basis.   For example a 60% classroom assignment  must  complete 60% of 33.5 hours
Adjunct Faculty - must complete and report 1/2 of their total annual hourly assignment

Documents pre-approved and individual instructional improvement activities.  Form A must be signed by your Dept. chair and completed no later than June 1, 2008.
